I am having this issue with a WD Easystore hard drive that previously disconnected just fine on Windows 7. The drive consistently says its in use though I am not accessing it manually.

There is no program using it that I know of and this can happen even after just plugging in a USB device. I had to shut down the computer in order to be able to safely remove my external hard disk in a previous occasion.
