An orthographic projection map is a map projection of cartography. Like the stereographic projection and gnomonic projection, orthographic projection is a perspective (or azimuthal) projection, in which the sphere is projected onto a tangent plane or secant plane. The point of perspective for the orthographic projection is at infinite distance.

Unlike its perspective counterpart, the orthographic projection matrix offers a different view of three-dimensional scenes by projecting objects onto the viewing plane without the depth distortion inherent in perspective projection.

The aim of the orthographic projection matrix is to remap all coordinates within a specific 3D space bounding box to the canonical viewing volume—a concept introduced in Chapter 2. Imagine this original box as a bounding box encompassing all objects within your scene.
