Jan 23, 2011 · I used mapp gas for years when I needed a flame hotter than propane's but lower than oxy/acet. All I can find now is a watered down version that isn't as hot, doesn't hack it. Can you still get it in your area? Has it been made unavailable perhaps for cya?

Jul 3, 2019 · I brazed some holes shut using a plumbers propane torch with a cylinder of MAPP gas and a fluxed brazing rod. No fumes in the gas tank, of course. You can braze with MAPP gas, it gets hotter than propane.

Oct 30, 2017 · If you're that interested in trying this, Bernzomatic makes a cheap ($60-70) torch that uses canned oxygen and MAPP gas. You might be able to use one of those setups.

May 22, 2020 · Get a pair of vise-grips, a five gallon bucket, a piece of foam rubber, 3 gallons of water, and an acetyline torch (NOT MAPP gas or propane). Put the foam rubber in the bottom of the bucket, and add the water.

Mar 9, 2022 · My biggest hurdle was keeping the panel warm enough for the lead to flow where I wanted to push it. Initially I was warming the lead I wanted to move and wondering why it wouldn't spread. Now I also warm the area that I want it to go. I also tried different torches. A MAPP gas blowtorch doesn't seem to pinpoint heat where I want it very well.

Mar 16, 2015 · I ran into a problem in soldering the copper tubing to the cast iron tie rod end, like the originals. I used a torch with Mapp-gas but the acid-core solder refused to flow. More heat? Brazing temperatures?

Nov 1, 2024 · Gas is cheap and effective for cleaning parts but not very safe (both flammable and toxic). So I'm curious what everyone else is using. I don't find water-based parts washing fluids to be any more effective than dish soap water, and they also tend to flash rust, whereas gas leaves an oily film so...
