If you fish, you pull the needle almost all the way out, change your angle and then reinsert. The literal point is to keep the needle point completely stable while advancing in the direction of the vein.

TIL that there’s a huge misconception that people take pictures with DEAD fish. Most of the time, the fish is alive when a photo is taken with it, and often a photo is all that is taken before the fish is released back into the water, a whole 30 seconds out of the water will not kill the fish.
