Using an VGA - HDMI adapter I put it in 1680x1050 in Ubuntu without problems, but in Windows 10 I only put it in 1240x768. If I try to put it in a higher resolution, the message "out of range" appears.

The issue can be on the adapter, or the VGA cable, or the monitor itself. I would suggest that you try the same adapter/VGA cable with a different monitor if possible to help narrow down the issue.
