Nintendo shared its earnings report for the end of 2024, showing that console sales were down further than expected in the months before the Switch 2 reveal.

Nintendo’s latest earnings report is out and sales of the Switch console have plummeted after the Switch 2 rumors and announcement, exactly as you’d expect. Switch sales are now projected to hit 11.0 million for the year ending March, down from 12.5 million units forecasted.

Part of Nintendo's success, beyond fun games and an good console, is that the Switch was more affordable than the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X. A $399 Switch 2, would still be cheaper than the PS5 and Series X, and likely far less than whatever future console Sony and Microsoft launch in the next couple of years.
