Sublingual glands; Parotid glands are the two largest salivary glands. They are found on each cheek, over your jaw, and in front of your ears.

Saliva accumulates in the salivary gland and forms a cyst since it cannot drain properly. This creates a ranula. Similarly, if you get hit in the face or bite your cheek too hard, a ranula could form.

Sublingual glands: These are on either side of the tongue, deep under the floor of the mouth. These are the smallest of the major salivary glands.

Less commonly, the stones affect the parotid glands, located on the inside of the cheeks, or the sublingual glands, which are under the tongue. Many people with the condition have multiple stones.
