SUVA, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Fiji considers protecting its coral reefs and supporting communities that depend on them through a new National Action Plan for Coral Reef Conservation.

The study, which was conducted on Panggang Island in Thousand Islands regency, showed that snorkeling had contributed to the damage of coral reef by up to 8.2 percent per year.

The coral reef scientist, a former US citizen who has made Fiji home, has been living and working on this coastline for almost 20 years, monitoring the state of its reef ecosystems.
